It’s not really the offseason without a dramatic announcement at least once a week, right?

Last week, the NWHL announced that it was adding the Minnesota Whitecaps to the league. Today, the Twin Cities Pioneer Press published an article that revealed its newest head coaches: Robb and Shivaun Stauber.

Yes, THAT Robb Stauber.

Robb most recently coached Team USA at the 2018 Olympics, where the team won its first gold medal in 20 years. The couple also previously served as coaches on the Whitecaps during the 2015-16 season; both were listed as a coaches of the Whitecaps when Minnesota (then unaffiliated with the NWHL) played an exhibition game against the New York Riveters in 2015.

Jack Brodt, who was listed as the Whitecaps head coach on the team’s site as recently as last week and who was one of the co-founders of the team, will remain as the team’s assistant coach, per the Pioneer Press. His coaching role will mainly be working with the squad’s defense. ESPN reported last week that he would remain the club’s head coach and general manager.

Both Robb and Shivaun were former goalies; Shivaun played for both the University of Mercyhurst and the University of Vermont, while Stauber played for the University of Minnesota and a variety of professional teams. Shivaun also has coaching experience at RIT and Niigata University in Japan; Elite Prospects also lists her as a former assistant coach with Niagra University.
