Buffalo Beauts sign Meghan Fonfara

Buffalo adds some size and depth before their season opener in Connecticut

Today the Buffalo Beauts announced the signing of Meghan Fonfara, a 6-foot forward who spent the past four seasons playing for Elmira College (NCAA D-III).

Fonfara scored 12 goals and picked up 14 assists in 30 games during her senior season at Elmira College. She was a teammate of current Connecticut Whale rookie forward Sarah Hughson for the past four seasons. Fonfara used her big frame to finish fifth on Elmira in scoring last year and finished her collegiate career with an average of 0.63 points per-game.

“Meghan came to our free agent camp and clearly showed that her athleticism would be a nice fit for our organization,” Beauts general manager Nik Fattey shared in the team’s press release. “She is another strong local player that will add to our already competitive roster.”

Fonfara is now the fourth forward on Buffalo’s roster that is 5-foot-10 or taller, which is noteworthy because the Beauts have a reputation for being a big, physical team. Fonfara is the 19th skater to sign with the Beauts for the 2018-19 NWHL season, giving Buffalo a total of 22 players. Late in the offseason, we heard that Buffalo was looking to add another forward to the roster. It looks like Fattey found the player that he was looking for in Fonfara.

The Beauts play their much-awaited first game of the season today in Connecticut at the Terry Conners Ice Rink against the Whale at 3:00 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed live on YouTube and can be watched here.
