CWHL season opens!

NWHL

Sat. Oct. 13

  • Conneticut Whale at Buffalo Beauts at 1:30 p.m. Eastern - Twitter Game of the Week/

The Whale get their second big test right off the bat. After Nicole Hensley got the first start last weekend, will Shannon Szabados get the start at the home opener?

  • Metropolitan Riveters at Boston Pride at 7:30 p.m. Eastern - YouTube/

The Pride will open their 2018-19 campaign at home against a Riveters team who were swept the weekend before. It’s the first chance to see the impact new coach Paul Mara has on the team that struggled last season. Like most other teams, the big question leading into the game (and the Pride’s season) is who will start: rookie Katie Burt or veteran Brittany Ott? Burt is a ballgirl for the Red Sox, who will open the second round of the playoffs at home this night, so that question may have been answered for the first game.

Welcome to the 2018-19 CWHL Preview!

It’s opening weekend of the CWHL!

Sat. Oct. 13

  • Calgary Inferno at Les Canadiennes de Montreal at 6:30 p.m. Eastern - CWHL Stream/

Ohhhhhhh boy is this a fun way to open the CWHL season. The Inferno added some huge players this off season as did Canadiennes. Both teams will come out flying, eager to show what they can do. I predicted on Top Shelf that the first and the last game of the CWHL season will be the same because that’s how good I think these teams are. It’s also the first time in years (if ever) that Hilary Knight will line up across from Brianna Decker. American Kacey Bellamy is also on the otherside from Knight.

This is (thankfully) one of the games the CWHL still be streaming.

  • Shenzhen KRS Vanke Rays at Toronto Furies at 7 p.m. Eastern/

Here’s our first chance at seeing the newly rebranded KRS Vanke Rays and a scary stacked Toronto. Sarah Nurse and Brittany Howard will make their CWHL regular season debuts alongside veterans Natalie Spooner and Renata Fast.

  • Worcester Blades at Markham Thunder at 7:30 p.m. Eastern - CWHL Stream/

The Blades start off with a really tough test of the reigning champions. The Thunder will raise their Clarkson Cup banner as well.
