Chris Vanstone named GM of Kunlun Red Star

Today the CWHL announced that Chris Vanstone will be the first general manager of Kunlun Red Star. This news comes with the 2017 CWHL Draft just three days away.

Vanstone’s experience in hockey has deep roots in the OJHL. Most recently he was the general manager and President of Hockey Operations for the Milton Icehawks Junior A Hockey Club. Prior to that position Vanstone coached, scouted for and managed other junior clubs.

From the CWHL’s press release:

Over the course of his management and coaching career, more than 85 of  Vanstone’s players have gone on to hockey success at many levels,  including the NHL, AHL, ECHL, NCAA and CHL.

It is unclear how much experience Vanstone has coaching or managing women’s hockey, but it is worth mentioning that his daughter Rebecca Vanstone is a Yale commit who was recently named to Hockey Canada’s U-18 August camp.

With Vanstone as general manager Kunlun looks ready to go for its first-ever CWHL Draft. But the same cannot be said of the Vanke Rays. With the draft just days away we know precious little about the CWHL’s second team in China.
