Sweden announces roster for South Korea camp, Pernilla Winberg absent

Winberg's Falun camp replacement also not on roster

Team Sweden invited 22 players to training camp in Gangneung, South Korea, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association announced Thursday. Thirteen forwards, seven defenders, and two goaltenders will leave Sweden on July 21 and return July 30 after nine days of training and two exhibition games.

The 22-player roster is markedly smaller than the one that recently completed camp in Falun. Noticeably absent is Damkronorna veteran and Linköping HC star forward Pernilla Winberg, who left shortly into the Falun camp due to illness. Matilda af Bjur, her replacement at Falun, was also not named to the South Korea roster.

In an interview with a local Linköping newspaper, Winberg pointed to her ongoing rehab for a back injury as the reason for her remaining in Sweden. That same injury caused her to miss 16 out of 36 SDHL games last season.
