Riveters add Lauren Wash, Cheeky Herr and Sarah Bryant

For the second day in a row three NWHL signings were announced together. It appears that things are heating up with the RFA period approaching its end.

The Riveters signed forwards Lauren Wash and Julia “Cheeky” Herr from last season’s team and practice squad goaltender Sarah Bryant. All three players were rookies during the 2016-17 NWHL season. Wash joined the team halfway through the season after the departure of Morgan Fritz-Ward and Herr and Bryant were practice squad players.

“After playing just the second half of the season last year, I loved it, but it felt like unfinished business,” Wash shared in the league’s press release. “I believe we have something special at the Riveters. I’m really excited to be returning to the NWHL and what will be a great team next season.”

Bryant served as the team’s third-string goaltender last season but was pressed into duty when Sojung Shin had obligations with the Korean national team. She served as Katie Fitzgerald’s backup for half the season. She has yet to start a game in the NWHL.

“I'm looking forward to being with the Riveters for another season,” Bryant said in the press release. “Although we are still awaiting the announcement of others, I am thrilled to have Fitzy, Tatiana, Russo, Lauren, and Cheeky as teammates.”

Herr appeared in two preseason and two regular season games with the Riveters during the 2017-18 season. The diminutive winger has yet to register her first NWHL shot or point. She played her college hockey at Trinity College.

Update: The Ice Garden has received confirmation from the league that Herr and Bryant will be main roster players - not practice squad players - for the 2017-18 season.
