NWHL announces broadcast partnership with ABC News for Isobel Cup Playoffs

ABCNews.com and the ABC News app will feature the Isobel Cup Playoffs as part of Women’s History Month coverage.

Today, the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) announced a broadcast deal with ABC News for Friday’s Isobel semifinal in Newark, as well as the 2017 Isobel Cup Final on Sunday. Last week, the league released the details for the final held at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, MA, alluding that broadcast details were forthcoming.

Regular season NWHL games are typically streamed online for free via YouTube or on the NWHL website. The ABC News partnership is the third of the season. In November, the league announced a partnership with Cheddar, followed by a two-game deal with New England Sports Entertainment (NESN) in January. NESN broadcast seven games in the inaugural season.

"We’re proud that ABC has partnered with us during this big week in our league’s young history,” said Commissioner Dani Rylan in the league release. “We’re very appreciative of ABC News for its support of the NWHL and women’s hockey.”

Although Boston hosts the Connecticut Whale to open the Isobel Cup Playoffs tonight, ABC News and the ABC News app will begin coverage with Friday’s semifinal at the Barnabas Health Hockey House. The New York Riveters will host the Buffalo Beauts at 7:30 pm ET.

On Sunday, the network will live stream the Isobel Cup Final at the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell. Winners from the two semi-finals will advance and compete for the title of 2017 Isobel Cup Champions. The Boston Pride won the first ever league title on March 12th of last year.

Fans can still watch the games via Cross Ice Pass throughout the playoffs.
