For the third time this season a player on the Buffalo Beauts has earned a one-game suspension. This time around it’s Beauts rookie forward Maddie Elia. Elia used her stick illegally twice against Metropolitan Riveters defender Kelsey Koelzer on November 18th. Elia did not receive penalties for either of the stick infractions during the game.

From the NWHL’s Player Safety Committee:

[Maddie] Elia received her suspension for spearing and butt-ending Riveters defender Kelsey Koelzer in two separate plays during the game.

Elia is ineligible for the Beauts game against the Boston Pride this Saturday. Elia is one of two rookies on Buffalo with five points in the first four games of the season. So it’s safe to say that she will be missed in the Beauts lineup.

The Riveters and Beauts meet again on December 10th at the Barnabas Health Hockey House at 3:00 p.m. Considering the fact that there have been three suspensions after the first two meetings between the two teams, we should keep an eye out for some more bad blood.
