Mercyhurst Loses First CHA Matchup

Coming into their first CHA matchup of the season, Mercyhurst had only won 1 of their 6 games and were looking to get two conference wins over the Robert Morris Colonials. That task would prove tough to do, as the Colonials were undefeated at home and Mercyhurst was coming off of three straight losses. Mercyhurst would go on to lose two close games 2-1, dropping their record to 1-6-1.

Offense Continues to Sputter

Arguably Mercyhurst’s biggest problem this season has been their lack of offense. Jenna Dingeldein and Emily Janiga graduating has really affected the Lakers’ attack, as both were responsible for 27% of the team’s goals scored last year. Mercyhurst has 9 goals in 8 games and has scored more than one goal in a game only once, when they scored three in their only win of the season over Quinnipiac. Mercyhurst has never trailed by more than two goals and has lost four of their eight games by one goal. They must find their offensive game - with only two goals so far, last year’s leading point getter Rachael Smith must turn things around.

Convery’s Strong Season Continues

Jessica Convery’s strong season continued this weekend, despite losing in the only game she played in this past weekend. In game one of the series she recorded 22 saves on 24 shots. Convery has played in six games this season, starting in five of them and has recorded a .941 save percentage with a 1.40 goals against average. Having made 128 saves over the course of the season, she has averaged 21 saves per game. She has also allowed only two power play goals.

The puck drops between Mercyhurst, and their next opponent, the Penn State Nittany Lions on Mercyhurst’s home ice at Mercyhurst Ice Center in Erie, Pa. on Friday, Nov. 4 at 7:00pm ET and the series wraps up on Saturday, Nov. 5 with a 2:00pm ET contest.
