Quinnipiac Advances ECAC Play Against Dartmouth and Harvard
<em>After two tough losses at home, QU defeats Dartmouth and Harvard on the road </em>
Quinnipiac picked up two more ECAC wins this weekend against Dartmouth and Harvard. As the Bobcats completed their second weekend sweep in conference play this season, they improved to 9-4-1 (4-2-0 ECAC). Both wins are big for QU’s morale as well as their overall standings after suffering two difficult losses last weekend. On Friday, Nov. 4, QU fell 4-1 to Clarkson at home and on Saturday, QU suffered an in-conference loss to St. Lawrence (1-0).
QU topped the ECAC standings during the 2015-16 season with a 16-2-4 in-conference record. Though they have struggled, the Bobcats’ recent wins help put them back on track to once again excel in ECAC play, with only six of their remaining 16 conference games left against currently ranked opponents.
Dartmouth Recap
With just 6:35 left in the period, freshman Kate MacKenzie netted the game-winning goal and her first ever collegiate goal. Sophomore Kenzie Lancaster put the Bobcats ahead with a 1-0 lead during the second period, but Dartmouth tied the game with just over seven minutes left in the third period. Moments later, assisted by Meghan Turner and Kenzie Prater, MacKenzie found the back of the net to help QU secure the win. QU registered a total of 33 shots on goal, with 15 shots in the first period, which is tied for a season best in 20 minutes of action. Grabbing her eighth victory of the new season, goaltender Sydney Rossman made a total of 15 stops.
Harvard Recap
The Bobcats completed a comeback 2-1 win against Harvard on Saturday, Nov. 12. After a scoreless first two periods, Harvard found the back of the net early into the third. Freshman Kati Tabin put the Bobcats on the scoreboard just a couple of minutes later to tie the game. The goal marks Tabin’s second of the season. And just 1:46 later, junior Taylar Cianfarano found the back of the net to give the Bobcats the 2-1 lead. The goal marks Cianfarano’s team-leading 10th of the season and gives her 97 total career points.
Up Next
QU will host Cornell and Colgate on Nov. 18-19 at home. With a current record of 5-0-0 in ECAC play, Colgate is off to their best conference start in history. After a strong 3-0 win over Brown last weekend, the Raiders will be looking to keep their conference record unblemished when they take on the Bobcats. However, QU will also be fighting against these two tough opponents to continue their winning streak after their two big wins on the road.
