Hockey Canada announces 2023 Worlds roster
Canada names its roster, which has no PHF players and is headlined by the return of Natalie Spooner.
Earlier today, Hockey Canada announced its roster for the 2023 IIHF World Championship which will be played in Brampton, ON. This news comes just two weeks after Canada won its fourth consecutive game over Team USA in the Rivalry Series to win the series, 4-3.
The 23-player roster is stacked with experience and talent, predominantly from the ranks of the PWHPA. The active collegiate players are Sarah Fillier (Princeton) and Danielle Serdachny (Colgate). It's noteworthy that there are no players who are currently in the PHF on this roster despite the fact that both Loren Gabel (Boston Pride) and Brittany Howard (Toronto Six) are having seasons that will have them in the conversation for the league's Most Valuable Player.
Veteran forward Natalie Spooner is back in the fold just three months after giving birth. Spooner, 32, is one of the top forwards in the world has been a core player for Team Canada for over a decade. Her return to the ice makes Canada's offense that much deeper and that much more dangerous.

The 2023 Worlds will begin on April 5 and the gold medal game will be played on April 16.
