SB Nation’s NCAA Poll: Schedule Scramble

This week could be make or break for a few teams, if any of the games are played that is.

Harvard Athletics

This past weekend saw a mess in the scheduling department as many games were postponed and future games were moved up. This upcoming week hold a lot of exciting games on the schedule, but we will see how many get played.

1. Wisconsin (18-1-3), 80 (8) — Last poll: 1

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Minnesota (1/21, 1/22)

Wisconsin didn’t play any games last week, and now they head to Minneapolis for a pair of must win games.

2. Ohio State (17-3-0), 71 — Last poll: 2

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Minnesota-Duluth (1/21, 1/22)

Ohio State was another victim of postponements and now play host to Duluth.

3. Northeastern (19-2-1), 63 — Last poll: 3

  • Last week: W 3-1 @ Boston University (1/15)
  • Coming Week: @ Boston College (1/18), v Boston University (1/21)

The Huskies had their original series postponed but had one of this week’s games moved up, in which they avenged their other loss this season. They will now travel to Chestnut Hill and then host the Terriers to wrap their regular season conference series against both of their rivals.

4. Quinnipiac (15-3-3), 53 — Last poll: 5

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: @ Union (1/17), v Dartmouth (1/21), v Harvard (1/22)

The Bobcats benefited from the week off and our voters. This week brings two relatively easy games then a big one with Harvard.

5. Minnesota (17-6-1), 45 — Last poll: 4

  • Last week: W 7-2 @ Minnesota State (1/14), L 4-5 OT v Minnesota State (1/15)
  • Coming Week: v Wisconsin (1/21, 1/22)

The trip up to Mankato was a nice easy domination and that was expected, the next day was less so. The Mavericks got their first win in Minneapolis in nearly two decades. Now the Gophers have to regroup with he defending champ Badgers coming to town.

6. Clarkson (17-2-3), 36 — Last poll: 8

  • Last week: No Games
  • Coming Week: v Rensselaer (1/21), v Union (1/22)

The Golden Knights had all their games moved and are now scheduled for a lighter difficulty pair.

7. Colgate (17-4-1), 34 — Last poll: 7

  • Last week: W 2-1 OT v St. Lawrence (1/16)
  • Coming Week: v Cornell (1/18), @ Yale (1/21), @ Brown (1/22)

Colgate was able to get the empty net equalizer and then they took the overtime. The coming week brings a trip of Ivy Leaguers.

8. Minnesota-Duluth (13-7-0), 32 — Last poll: 6

  • Last week: W 8-2 v Bemidji State (1/14), W 3-0 v Bemidji State (1/15)
  • Coming Week: @ Ohio State (1/21, 1/22)

Two games two wins but the Bulldogs still fell precipitously in our rankings. A trip to Columbus could rebound Duluth back up or lock them in down here.

9. Harvard (11-5-0), 15 — Last poll: 10

  • Last week: W 5-1 v Brown (1/14), W 3-1 v Yale (1/15)
  • Coming Week: @ Princeton (1/21), @ Quinnipiac (1/22)

Two Ivy League wins put the Crimson in the drivers seat for the crown in that league and atop the ECAC table. These results make Harvard this week’s ‘Belles of the Ball.’ The coming road trip could see Harvard cement themselves atop of both or bring them back down to earth.

10. Yale (11-4-1), 11 — Last poll: 9

  • Last week: W 4-2 @ Dartmouth (1/14), L 1-3 @ Harvard (1/15)
  • Coming Week: v Colgate (1/21), v Cornell (1/22)

Yale was solid up in Hanover but the trip to Brighton did not go according to plan. The Bulldogs will look to rebound against a pair of tough opponents in New Haven.
