Team China to headline 50th annual Theresa Humes tournament in Montreal

The Concordia event’s semicentennial anniversary will also feature Ryerson and Vermont

The Concordia Stingers have released their full schedule for the 2017-18 year, including the guests for the 50th edition of the Theresa Humes tournament.

In addition to the hosts, the Vermont Catamounts, the Ryerson Rams, and the Chinese national team will also be taking the ice at Ed Meagher Arena from Dec. 29-31. Team China will face off against the Stingers in the exhibition tournament’s final game, at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

Past years have seen the Chinese team take extended training tours to Canada. Last fall, Team China spent 10 days in the Vancouver region, highlighted by a contest against the UBC Thunderbirds. The Ontario Women’s Hockey Association hosted the Chinese team annually from 2010 to 2015, including a month-long stay in 2015 that concluded with a match against the Brampton Thunder.

The Stingers defeated Team China 7-2 during a similar month-long tour in 2003.

With numerous Chinese players looking poised to double as members of HC Kunlun’s CWHL rosters, it is likely that the national team’s travels may coincide with the time that the Red Star and Rays spend in Canada.
