Boston Pride trade Paige Savage to Connecticut Whale

Savage returns to the team that drafted her in 2016

We have our first trade of the 2017-18 NWHL season! The Boston Pride have sent rookie forward Paige Savage to Connecticut in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2018 Draft. The last time these two teams made a trade current CWHL star Zoe Hickel was involved.

From the league’s press release:

“We are excited to have Paige join the Whale,” said Connecticut head coach Ryan Equale. “As Paige makes the adjustment from college to the NWHL, we will look for Paige to bring her scoring touch, intensity and work ethic to our team.”

Interestingly enough, Savage was originally a pick of the Whale in the 2016 NWHL Draft (15th overall). So this trade is something of a homecoming for the forward. It’s also worth noting that Savage did not play in the Pride’s first two regular season games, so she will be making her regular season debut with the team that drafted her.

Savage played her NCAA hockey at Northeastern University where she scored 51 points in her final two seasons. She will help bolster the Whale’s forward group which has already looked better than most analysts were expecting. We’re only two weeks into the NWHL season, but we’ve already learned not to count out the Whale.

The Whale will play the undefeated Metropolitan Riveters this weekend.
