Michela Cava, Sidney Morin sign in Sweden

Standout Furies rookie and UMD captain will both join SDHL’s MODO Hockey for 2017-2018

Toronto Furies forward Michela Cava and University of Minnesota-Duluth defender Sidney Morin are both headed to MODO Hockey in the SDHL, the club announced Wednesday on their website.

Cava's move to Sweden is another big loss for a Furies roster facing next season without Natalie Spooner, Reneta Fast, and Erin Ambrose due to centralization and Kelly Terry's recent retirement. Between Spooner, Terry, and Cava (who was fifth in the CWHL for rookie scoring), the team's top-three in both points and goals are now gone.

Morin was a standout defender at UMD, captaining the Bulldogs in her senior year and finishing her collegiate career with 70 points in 147 regular-season games. She was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, and her +37 tied for the NCAA lead among defenders.

Cava’s offensive flair and Morin’s puck-moving skills will be welcome additions to a MODO team in need of goal scoring on both the front and back end. The team finished eighth in the league last year with 11 wins, eight ties, and 17 losses.
