Caroline Ouellette becomes first CWHL player to reach 300 career points

It was a historic weekend for the CWHL, in more ways than one!

It was the moment we were all waiting for. In a weekend that will forever live in the record books of the CWHL, Caroline Ouellette notched her 300th career point, becoming the first player in CWHL history to reach the milestone.

After Les Canadiennes de Montreal defeated the Calgary Inferno 1-0 at the Bell Centre on Saturday, fans were forced to wait another day to see Ouellette hit the 300 mark. Saturday’s game was the first ever CWHL game to take place in an NHL arena. You can find a summary of the game in this week’s Staturday with Mike.

A record-breaking crowd of almost 6,000 fans flooded the Bell Centre to watch these two teams square off. It was the most highly anticipated game of the CWHL’s season, and we were just getting started.

Round two between Montreal and Calgary took place on Sunday afternoon. Calgary took the lead early on, with a goal from Bailey Bram. But shortly after, Montreal would find themselves with a 5-on-3 power play. It was then that Ann-Sophie Bettez tied things up for Montreal. With an assist on that goal, Caroline Ouellette reached 300 career points in the CWHL. Check out the goal below (courtesy of Jared Book):

“Record holder” is a name that Ouellette is pretty familiar with at this point. She currently leads all CWHL skaters in points, primary points, goals, and power-play goals. For a complete rundown of her accomplishments so far, check out our article from last week. (Spoiler alert: it’s a fairly substantial list!)

Montreal would unfortunately fall 5-3 to Calgary in that game, splitting the weekend series. Regardless of the outcome, it was a truly special moment to see Ouellette make history in what was already a historic weekend for the CWHL. Congratulations, Caro!
